“I promise, Destiny, I will risk everything within my power
to protect you. I promise.”
Destiny wiped off her tears and hugged me suddenly, crushing
her cold body against mine. I spread my arms wide to draw
her close. I could feel her warmth; her love. Her body was
shivering badly and I wanted to protect her.
I wished that moment would last forever.
“Thanks, Alan.” she whispered into my ears.

““Are you ready to tell me your story now?” I probed,
assured that she would spill out the beans now.
She hesitated. Looking at the heavens, and then inspecting
me with wary eyes, she stood up without a word.
I followed suit, part of me feeling elated that I could
finally know the truth, but part of me fearful that the
truth might bring nothing, but further pain.

“Two more weeks.” I implored. “Two more weeks. Give me two
more weeks. Please…”
I was 17, but I bawled like a three-year-old boy. Tears
blurred my vision, but my ears were eager for an answer.
Gently, she cupped my face with her palms and nodded.
“Destiny, I promised that you’ll be the happiest girl for
these two weeks.”

Everything took a semblance of normalcy until my Ma came
knocking on my door one early morning. She had found
something in my pants’ back pocket when she was doing the
laundry. It was the paper that Mr. Wu had passed to me on
our ride that day to save Destiny. I looked at the faded
words.
Jason Tan? The guy who tried to kill Destiny? Why had she
never mentioned anything about him… Was Destiny still
keeping something from me?
Extracted from Chapter 14
I looked at her for that few more seconds, and then made my
way out through the doorway.
Alone in the streets once more, I whispered the three words
that were dying to leap from my heart.
“I love you.”
