Extracted from Chapter 32:

Dennis closed the book. "Little Lara, do you hear voices in your mind?"

"Yes."

I bit my teeth. Lara was smiling.

"Who talks inside your mind, Lara?" Dennis flipped to an empty page in his notepad and stared at Lara.

Extracted from Chapter 33:

Lara told Dennis a lot about the different people who talked in her mind.

Leslie was an angry guy who hated me to the core. He said that I did not deserve Lara. Linda had not really talked much in her mind. She would always cry. akin a baby. Landy was a strong girl. She would always try to solve problems.

Then Lara talked about the different Laras in her mind. There were a total of eight Laras talking in her mind.

Extracted from Chapter 34:

"What?" I turned my head so fast that everything in front of me was flashes.

"The consultation and the medication. I think it’s a discounted price."

"My god." I said. Two hundred and fifty-one bucks? I faced Lara. She had no idea what was happening at all. I blinked twice and turned back to the nurse. "Do you accept NETS?"

Extracted from Chapter 35:

"It's the least I can do for her." I said. "Please."

Finally, when she dried up, she nodded. "You make sure she gets well, Jie Lun. You make sure it’s a happy ending. You’ll better be sure of that."

I nodded slightly. "It will be a happy ending." I said. I was crossing my fingers.

Extracted from Chapter 36:

I glanced at Lara's door. If not for her, I would be enjoying my life now. But our love... I thought about it. Maybe it is worth it.

I lied back on the sofa. Our fifteen years love story... it is worth the suffering. It is... it is... she will be better tomorrow... look on the bright side, Zhou Jie Lun. Look on the bright side. Lara is suffering from some mental illness, and she is receiving treatment. She will be fine, she will be fine...

The suffering is momentary; the love is everlasting...

Extracted from Chapter 37:

Everything went into slow motion. I ran towards Lara, my legs shaking so much that I nearly tripped. Lara’s mouth was wide opened. She looked at me, and then blinked once. Then again. And again.

She was still holding the soft toy on her right hand.

Then, after so many years, my tears came.

"You make sure she get well, Jie Lun. You make sure it's a happy ending. You'll better be sure of that."

"It will be a happy ending."

Extracted from Chapter 38:

When we were Primary Two, our teachers brought us on an excursion to the Jurong Bird Park.

Before we went, we had to get our parents to sign a consent form. On that day after school, we lined up to wait for the bus. When the bus came, I found a seat with Derrick, one of the cool guys in school. He groaned when I sat beside him.

We reached the Bird Park after ten minutes. There was an odour in the air. A few students covered their nose. Our teachers told us not to cover our noses. They ensured us that the smell was harmless. One teacher even said smelling it would make us grow up. That amused some of the teachers.

Extracted from Chapter 39:

My mother started to nag about my jobless state. One day, I decided to look for a job. It rained and I waited in my room for the rain to stop.

As I waited, I leafed through the newspaper. The rain stopped a few minutes later. After changing to a shirt and pants, I looked out through the window. There, standing on the edge of the sky, was a rainbow with seven colours.

I stared at the rainbow for what seemed like hours. It was a pathway to heaven. I pushed my hands into my pocket and tears began welling in my eyes again. I remembered a girl and I sucked in a deep breath to stop the tears. I reached for my cigarette, lit it, remembered the girl again and doused the stick.

She is out there. I am here, but she is out there.

Somewhere out there.

Extracted from Epilogue:

The day before the boy went to jail, he walked passed his Primary school. He saw a young girl standing at the gates of the school, her hands pinching her ears.

He went towards the girl and whispered, "You will not be young forever."

That freaked the girl out.
